Traditional Closeboard Fencing with Trellis in Woking
We recently completed a 100ft traditional closeboard fencing installation at a residential property in Woking, Surrey. The existing boundary had become worn and unstable, so it was removed to make way for a stronger and more attractive replacement.
The new fencing was built using pressure-treated timber and finished with a timber trellis along the top. This gives the garden a secure and private boundary without making the space feel completely enclosed. The completed installation follows the garden layout neatly and provides a clean, consistent finish across the full boundary.

Common Questions
Closeboard Fencing FAQs
Q1: How strong is traditional closeboard fencing?
Closeboard fencing is one of the strongest timber fencing options because the boards are fixed individually to horizontal rails supported by secure posts.
Q2: What is the purpose of adding trellis above a fence?
Trellis provides extra height and decoration without creating the same enclosed appearance as a fully solid fence.
Q3: How long can pressure-treated closeboard fencing last?
Its lifespan depends on exposure, maintenance and installation quality, but pressure-treated timber can provide many years of service when kept in good condition.
Q4: Can closeboard fencing follow a sloping garden?
Yes. It can be stepped or adjusted along the boundary, making it suitable for gardens with changes in level.
